    Career Counseling in Brattleboro?

The most accurate and helpful career counseling I ever received--and I tried them all--was from an astrologer and later from a Feng Shui master.

Have your natal chart done by an experienced astrologer.

Then go to Patti Newton in Brattleboro at 802-254-9600. Actually you could combine those two actions.

Also, it might be helpful to take the Myers-Briggs Personality inventory exam. That can be helpful for both career and social life.

While the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) may be useful if you don't understand yourself or how others may view you, I can't say the same about astrology. Astrology is a pure and simple sham.

I'd try the Windham Regional Career Center and see what they can offer.

The career center is having an open house, isn't it? That might be a good way to check them out. I am not under the impression that career guidance for adults is part of their programming, but I could be wrong about that.

Another possibility is CCV. They probably have career counselors there who could help you start looking into what you want to do and how to do it. I remember taking some kind of standardized test in high school where you were scored in four different areas of interest (people, numbers, words and things, maybe?) and then given a list of career possibilities based on your answers. Knowing I'm an INFJ (that's from Myers-Briggs) has been a great tool for understanding why the heck I'm so neurotic in certain ways, but I don't think it helped me on my career path much.

Vt Student Assistance Corp does outreach around the state. You learn about their services (loans and grants), and take an aptitude test. This is for all ages. They have a website, or CCV or a high school could get you in touch. The Dept of Employment and Training in the state office building on Main St. may also be of some help.

In high school we used to jokingly wonder why anyone would take career
advice from someone who ended up as a guidance counselor. : )

One thing I would do is try to find someone who is already doing what
you want to do and talk to them. Ask them questions - what do they
recommend, what schools or training programs do they suggest, etc.

Job shadowing for 1/2 a day saved a lot of time for me, when the question and answer routine was not sufficiently illuminating.
