HealthCLASS FOR FAMILY MEMBERS IMPACTED BY MENTAL ILLNESS

NAMI-Vermont announces the offering of its free Family-to-Family Education course for families of persons diagnosed with serious mental illness. This 10-week class will start in Brattleboro, Vermont on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at 6:30 PM.

This is a unique opportunity to learn more about the challenges of living with someone with mental illness while finding emotional support, self-care and empowerment. The course is designed specifically for parents, siblings, spouses, teen-age and adult children and significant others of persons with severe mental illness.

The course will cover information about the major mental illnesses: schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression, and borderline personality disorder. It will also present coping skills such as handling crisis and relapse, basic information about medications, listening and communication techniques, problem-solving skills, recovery and rehabilitation, and family member self-care. The course will be taught by NAMI-Vermont volunteers from Westminster and Mt. Holly who have taken intensive training to become course instructors.

Thanks to s state grant, The NAMI Family-to-Family Education Course is provided free of charge. Registration is required and space is limited. For more information or to register, contact NAMI-Vermont at 1-800-639-6480 or namivt@myfairpoint.net.
