Scott McCarty of Brattleboro released the following statement today regarding the Windham County State Senate race:
"As the Legislature begins to work in earnest to solve the Vermont Yankee issue and also address our economic, budget and energy futures -- I will be closely evaluating and observing the climate and also what work the Legislature will be doing to address the many issues facing Windham County families, family farms and small businesses. Depending on how the Legislature performs and how they tackle issues like college affordability, our energy future, protecting our local schools, supporting our family farms and encouraging economic growth without excessive taxation -- I will make an announcement after Town Meeting Day when I can talk more with local leaders across Windham County."
"Because the Legislature is still in session, I think it is in bad form to announce a candidacy when one of the incumbents who is running for re-election cannot actively partake in the discussion because of Legislative duties. That is why I am holding off until after Town Meeting Day to make any decision about running for the Democratic nomination and will hold off on any campaigning until after the Legislature adjourns out of respect for Jeannette White and the wonderful leadership she provides as well as the democratic and legislative process. I will continue to engage in a conversation with folks across Windham County about the big issues facing our community and how best to move our state forward."

In terms of full disclosure, I have been inundated with emails and phone calls about when I am announcing and what I am doing ever since Toby Young announced she was running and I wanted to give people a definitive time frame.
A few days after Town Meeting Day will be the announcement and iBrattleboro will be in the loop, no doubt.

I think the people who are watching the political game are getting anxious to see who is running and want me to jump in now. No problem with that. But, I am not ready to make a decision yet and I think it is too early to announce a candidacy especially when the Legislature is just beginning its work and when one of the incumbents is up there working. I'll hold off until a more appropriate time and I am still thinking about everything that is why I am holding off on a decision.
In terms of Spoons statement -- in the cyber age, we all need to be careful so I agree with you. What I would assumed happened here was that someone went on my website (where I posted my statement first before I sent it to Chris and Lise and everyone else) and posted it here. I can only assume that is what happened because I sent them a press release via email and did not post on the site myself.
So, if anyone wants to claim credit for that little bit of info, go for it. We should always put our names behind our posts which is what I have done and will continue to do!

You give the impression that after Toby Young announced, that this caused people to urge you to put your name in. Why would that be? Or did you mean to make that impression? Is there some sort of difference in political stance that would cause that connection, that would make people say Oh Toby's running, let's urge Scott to put his name in the mix?

I think some people just want the race to start and I wanted to put those notions to rest. It really is too early for a race right now for the Senate. I'm holding off until Town Meeting Day.
Don't know of any differences in policy between myself and Toby. I met her when I was very young but we never talked politics.
Some political junkies just want the race to begin and I think most people don't want it to start just yet. It's really too early.

You should be very careful, Scott, about making sure that everything you post has your name on it. In this case it is obvious thru the use of "I" that it is you. But what if a different Anonymous posts something that might sound like you but really isn't and you are unhappy with the message. Then you are in the untenable position of backpedalling with "but THAT Anonymous wasn't me!. If you use anonymous, every anonymous is you. Anything posted under "anonymous" is by definition discreditable.
