An ad hoc group of locals is incubating a community arts project, whose theme is centered around the subject of nuclear power. The plan is to encourage the making and exhibiting of art that expresses community members' response to the theme of Vermont Yankee and the energy future of Vermont. Everyone in the greater Brattleboro area is invited to contribute in whatever medium they choose, be it music, theater, painting, poetry, drawing, dance, collage, textiles, story telling, puppetry, photography, clay or video. The hope is to provide an opportunity for any and all individuals to respond to this question through an art form of their choice.
Everyone's participation is encouraged, regardless of opinion, experience, or age. Respect for others is the only guideline. There will be no charge for participation. Expenses for rent and supplies will be covered by free will donations. Starting early this spring, this art work will be exhibited and performed locally and possibly in other locations around the state. Additional communities in Vermont will be encouraged to initiate their own versions of this project.
The public "kick-off" for ART ENERGY will be an all day event on March 6th at the River Garden in Brattleboro. Tables will be set up with stations for many different kinds of art projects. Helpers will be at each station. Performance art will also be welcomed.
This is envisioned as a community "happening" and an opportunity to communicate with each other about an important issue. There will be many ways to participate.
