ActivismSomeone took down Vermont Yankee's "I Am VY" site. So I had to improvise. See "I Was VY". (And don't neglect to click on the picture for the full effect.)

Maybe nobody wants to be VY anymore. I mean, saying "I am VY" is kind of like saying "I'm a liar with a bladder control problem and I'm peeing in your water."

Forget his name - it was in the reformer. He was replaced by by a new dude named Curt Hebert, one of the company's PR types from Louisiana.

Fake Rob, we want poster boys Colomb and McElwee !
    Authored by: Rolf on Thursday, February 11 2010 @ 08:11 PM GMT+4
    This is from http://www.7dvt.com/2010consider-source.

"On July 24, Gundersen copied O’Brien on an email that explained, “I have since become aware that there may be underground pipes that do indeed carry radioactivity at VY and am trying to understand this apparent discrepancy between published [Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee] reports indicating radioactive underground piping and what we said in the [legislative] report.” In subsequent emails, he further detailed his evidence.

The source of Gundersen’s evidence was a report from ENVY to the Nuclear Regulatory Commission dated May 14, 2009.

The report, posted on the NRC’s website, makes it clear that ENVY found tritium and other radionuclides in on-site storm drains connected via underground pipes to the plant’s operations.

The NRC report is dated just one week before Entergy officials Jay Thayer and Michael Colomb “misled” regulators under oath. Colomb signed the May 14 NRC report. "

    They knew.

Seems a shame to have the focus of humor be on the has been, Thayer, when Colomb and McElwee are still part of the machine that

    keeps

    using

    the pipes.

Once again, you have no idea about what are posting...

"The report, posted on the NRC’s website, makes it clear that ENVY found tritium and other radionuclides in on-site storm drains connected via underground pipes to the plant’s operations."

Why don't you look at the actual report yourself before making any more incorrect statements. BTW, I'm not complaining about the radionuclides you mention. You probably should review the buried pipe program while you are at it.

Ironic how few on this board attempt even a cursory technical review of what they post. I'm glad you all don't work at VY. Even Arnie mixes his terms throughout that report.

This style of discourse is ultimately what’s wrong with renewing ENVY. It will permanently divide Vermont like it currently divides Vernon.

Just for the heck of it, think of Entergy as, oh say, any mega-bank. Take the safety issue out – take the details out – look at the big picture. The ‘bank’ has misrepresented their past practices and it has caused significant problems - downstream to Main Street kinds of problems. They are “too big to fail”. So, we don’t let them fail. We say, go ahead, we’ll help you continue. And they do continue. And they do repeat past mistakes. Except now we can’t stop them. We have no leverage and no public input. We have let the ‘bank’ take our hard earned 'trusts', squander them and we are outraged. Why repeat the mistakes we’ve so recently made?

So here’s my little solution – don’t perpetuate the problem. Stop it now. Decommission it now and start the road to recovery. We’re going to have to in 2032 anyway.

    Why not now?

Vermont has done such a good job replacing VY with solar, wind, biomass, etc. that the state now has >600 MWe from those sources, right?

Good luck building any of those with any sort of meaningful capacity.

You are going to die sometime, why not right now?

Are you trying to race the Republicans to the bottom?

Yep. Makes me sad. The Commons did mention how Vermont Yankee is a poisonous and polarizing discussion and tho' I've known that for a long time and from veiled interactions at Town Meeting (that I no longer go to for that 'polarizing' and 'sad' reason - I know, I give up the right to complain when I don't go to meeting - so I'm quiet most of the time (parenthetical enough?...)), but still - we need to think and discuss. Not joust and parry and defend. Thanks for Chris and Lise for the chance to give it a shot!

Does it currently divide Vernon? Everyone i know from Vernon, and from watching vernon town meetings, has great support of VY.

    Hi Mr Mike,

Actually, I think it does divide Vernon. As I said above, I no longer go to
TM because of the contention (my husband was born here and also does
not go because Vernon is so completely divided and different since he
grew up here). Our neighbors don't go anymore. We're all probably too
quiet about our issues and that's our problem. But when I've been
outspoken, the feedback ain't great. One 'neighbor' said, after some
discussion about elderly housing "I hope you never get old here".
