Town NewsIt's time to go vote. If you need any last minute information, want to see how to vote in Brattleboro, or want to look at a sample ballot before heading to the high school you can do so in the Brattleboro Town Meeting and Election 2010 page.

You are electing the Selectboard, but also Town Meeting reps, a moderator, and other positions as well.

Polls are open until 7 pm and the BeeLine Bus is offering free rides. You have no excuse! We'll have the full results shortly after the polls close tonight.

Thanks for doing the candidate interviews and providing election/voting info again this year.
    PAYT argument
    Authored by: Timmy on Tuesday, March 02 2010 @ 08:57 PM GMT+4
I heard from a very reliable source that Daryl Pillsbury and John Allen got into a screaming argument outside the polls about PAYT and whether or not the working poor apartment dwellers can afford it.

I don't know John, but I do know that Daryl does have a passionate temper..

Once when he was my state representative, he called me to respond to a letter in which I expressed disagreement with something he had done. He first gave me a piece of his mind, and then -- before I could respond -- said, "And you know what? I don't care what you think," and he hung up.

After that, I felt that I was unrepresented in the state legislature because the representative from my district had told me that he does not care what I think. I voted for Daryl today anyway, but I feel some discomfort about his ability to engage in a difference of opinion.

It doesn't surprise me. John Allen's smugness has made me want to scream several times.
    Stoopid Charter

That brings up another point about your stupid charter - now this new selectboard has to go to representative town meeting with the budget that the last selectboard prepared.

Theoretically, there could be three new board members headed to town meeting with a budget they didn't create, that they may know little about, and may not support. That just doesn't make much sense, does it?

I suppose, since Bratt residents can't vote on the floor of their own Town Meeting unless they're elected to have the full rights of other Vermonters, the ability to change board members before the budget is approved does give them some kind of process of check & balance.

    This has always mystified me.

    Hi Maus,

Note the comment on the "16% voter Turn-Out" post.

The Charter Revision Commission will be recommending moving our
General Town Meeting to the first Tuesday in November.

That would make much more sense than the current practice.

Although I would suggest that it makes even more sense just to have a regular Town Meeting and elections the way every other town in Vermont does it, and at the same time they do it. But I'm a big fan of our direct citizen government; maybe Brattleboro-ites don't care so much about it.
