    Brattleboro Election 2010 Write-In Results
    Thursday, March 04 2010 @ 03:08 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: cgrotke

Town NewsVoter turnout was 535 of 3,320 for District 1. In Disctrict 2, 467 of a possible 2,975 voters cast ballots. District 3 saw 460 of their 2,952 registered voters. A total of 1,462 ballots were cast overall out of 9,247 possible, which amounts to the much-lamented 16% total we've heard about.

Now to your write-ins. Note that District 3 had a write-in winner this year. Bill Penniman got 12 write in votes to become a District 3, 3-Year Town Meeting Member. Below you'll find the write-ins found on this year's ballot and the number of votes they received.

District 2 still has some seats available, so go to the caucus if you'd like to help your district and be a Town meeting member for one year.

    Which one is a cat?

The funny thing is, until I went looking for the cat, I didn't realize someone had written me in! I feel so famous. :)

FYI, anyone who wants to write me in in the future should be advised that I am in District 1. Our cats are named Maeve and Calliope, and they are also in District 1.

I'm afraid Calliope is pro-PAYT, however. She like the idea of illegal dumping, which will attract more rodents for her to catch.

I know that she likes the Chestnut Hill reservoir, and has no money to
pay for any increases in trash bag costs.

Thanks to whomever thought she'd do a good job. : )

If you wrote Bozo in, it should be here.

I suspect you didn't really write in Bozo.... but if you did, then your
ballot may not have been counted. Check with the Town Clerk if this is a
    serious omission.

    Hey Chris,

Actually I really did write a clown name in one. But I think I couldn't remember the name "Bozo" and put in "Barnie the Clown" or some other such name. It was for one of the spots with only one candidate, and I did not want to vote for that candidate. So my write in really was for Somebody "the clown" (I do think it was 'barnie')

I spoke with our most excellent Town Clerk and she says that
    obviously fictional names are discarded.

So, your votes for real people on your ballot were counted, but your
vote for a clown as a write-in was flagged as not-a-real-person, and
no vote was registered. I was told that it is treated as if you left the
    space blank.

If you had written in, say George Bush or Barack Obama, the vote
would have been counted, even though their election here would be
unlikely, because they are real people.

The cat name snuck by. I would guess this might be the last year she
gets a vote, though she may still go out campaigning anyway.

I feel sorry for real clowns running for office under their clown name
    as write-ins. Tough situation.

Further questions should be directed to the Town Clerk's office.
