The Friends of Brooks Memorial Library and the Library Trustees are planning the Brooks Library First Annual "Say! What Do You Know?" Trivia Contest to begin National Library Week 2010 on Sunday, April 11, 2010, at 2:00 PM, at the River Garden on Main St. Brattleboro.
The event is a fund-raiser to complete the 2nd year challenge match from the Bill and Melinda Gates Online Opportunity Grant, which is to assist the Library in upgrading our public access computers.
In November the Friends and Library Trustees sponsored the successful fund raising concert featuring jazz pianist, Christopher Bakriges, and his son, David, and in December, the Friends of the Library's successful booksale put us near our goal for the second year.
The Trivia Contest will put us over the top to raise $6,000 for the two-year match.
Here is how the trivia contest is going to work. Fifteen teams comprised of no more than 6 members each will donate $100 to participate. There will be 7 categories of trivia: Politics, The Arts, Popular Culture, Local History, Food, Sports, and a category of general questions. Download a team form at BML Trivia Team Form Registration.
Category hosts will include Master of Ceremonies Archer Mayor, and special guests, Greg Worden (Politics), Jerry Goldberg (Popular Culture), Gail Nunziata (the Arts), Fran Lynggaard Hansen (Local History), Jon Potter (Sports), and Tristan Toleno (Food.) The hosts will ask 5 questions in each of the seven categories. There will be a prize for the winning team.
In addition, in the weeks leading up to the contest, individuals can stop in the library and enter the Trivia Raffle Contest. For an entry fee of $5, answer correctly one question in one of the above categories and submit your answer on the back of the raffle ticket to win a prize in that category. The winners will be randomly selected at the River Garden at the end of the team contest on April 11.
The categories and coordinated prizes may include: food products, technology gadgets, books, and other good things. Prizes will be donated by area businesses.
Join in the fun, help the Library update library technology, and get a chance at winning a prize. Refreshments will be served.
