I woke up yesterday morning (Fri. 3/26/10) to VY's overdone front page Reformer spin. The dizzying photo perspective on the VY spinmeister himself makes him look like a very tall authoritative "Mr. Clean." And dig that sanitized hole in the ground. The reader finds herself looking up, then looking down, and then anchored by the midline header "VY seeks to rebuild trust." Apparently the holes in the few leaky pipes are controlled as well as is the hole in which the holey pipes reside.
In today's Reformer, page 32, we see a full page blue and green ad featuring the CEO of Entergy Nuclear in Vermont-style laid back business attire. His personal statement is about how he's a family man and the VY workers are family people and how important it is "...to convince you once again that we merit your support."
Only problem with this winner spinner photo is that CEO John Herron's head sports a solid black dye job while his moustache belies the true whiteness of his hair. Remember when it was common knowledge to never trust a man who colors his hair! Mark of a sales spin of yesteryear.
It appears VY is "seeking to build trust" by keeping the results of their internal investigation into whether they lied to state regulators from the public.
"Vermont Yankee Communications is issuing the following news release this afternoon in response to our filing of a protective order to the Vermont Public Service Board. This statement clarifies Entergy's position on the order which was misrepresented in a news article issued today.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 27, 2010
CONTACT: Larry Smith, Spokesman, Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee, (802) 258-4118
Filing Will Allow Entergy to Release Investigative Report
(Vernon) Entergy Nuclear Vermont Yankee spokesman Larry Smith responded today to news reports regarding a motion the company has filed with the Vermont Public Service Board setting conditions for the release of the company's internal report regarding underground piping.
"Despite interpretations to the contrary, the purpose of the motion was not to conceal information, but to make it public. The company's motion before the Public Service Board simply defines the conditions for providing the full report by an outside law firm to the public without waiving the attorney-client privilege or the attorney work product privilege with respect to anything else. A reading of the motion would have made clear that it was intended to facilitate, not obstruct, the transparency which the company has promised."

I gotta say that photo cracked me up.
And as for the story... well now that NY has put the kibosh on their shell game they seem to have jettisoned the "You need us more than we need you" crap.
So... how many pairs of tap shoes do you figure they've worn out so far?

Think they'd do that if it exonerated them?
