Chester Defeats Brattleboro for CRVBL Championship
    Tuesday, August 24 2010 @ 05:37 AM GMT+5
    Contributed by: QuintonCarr

RecreationCHESTER - The Chester Pirates defeated the Brattleboro River Rats 9-1 in the rain on Sunday, August 22 to earn their eighth Connecticut River Valley Baseball League championship. Despite the wet conditions, only two errors were committed in the game.

2010 Chester Pirates: Front Row, L-R: Gary Parker, Scott Renfro, Scott Coursen, Gary Graham, Craig Mellish, Jamie Spence

Back Row, L-R: Jesse Lane, Todd Wells, Chuck Harriman, Scott Sargent, Doug Roberts

Chester's Scott Renfro was in command on the mound, allowing only two hits and one earned run while striking out six to get the complete game win. Jamie Spence was the offensive star of the day going 3-for-3 with three triples, three runs, and three RBIs. His peformance marked the first time in League history that a player hit three triples in a single game. Other Pirates with good days at the plate included Scott Coursen (2-for-4, double, RBI), Gary Parker (2-for-3, RBI) and Doug Roberts (2-for-3). Todd Wells doubled off the top of the center field fence.

Kelvin Delarosa had two hits for Brattleboro, and Abe Klein scored the Rats' only run.

The game marked the end of the 2010 CRVBL season. For more information, visit the League's website at www.crvbl.org.

Ack! I knew we should have gone... but I was sure this
one was going to be called for rain and was hoping to
make the pickup game down here... bad gamble on my
    part.

Well, Chester did kind of deserve it, I suppose. They had a
stellar year. Still, I had hopes for our River Rats, the men
in black, who had been on a roll for the last few games.

Quinton, if anyone out there wants to start a team for
next year, join and existing team, or donate to the CRVBL
to help raise money for a taller backstop in Dummerston
or other projects, is there someone for them to get in
    touch with?

Thanks to all the ballplayers, and especially to Quinton for
writing these games up. It was the professional writing
that got us interested in the first place, and going to some
    games won us over.

    See y'all next year!

The weather conditions were definitely not ideal, but they somehow managed to get the game in before it rained too hard. Very well played game on both sides.

People interested in playing, starting a team, sponsoring the League/a team, or donating money can contact me through e-mail - qcarr@together.net or go to the website, www.crvbl.org (very soon we'll have an option there for people to submit interest/info).

Special thanks to Chris and Lise for taking an interest in our League and helping to spread the word! We had a lot of fun this season. Is it April yet?
