CHESTER - The Chester Pirates defeated the Brattleboro River Rats 9-1 in the rain on Sunday, August 22 to earn their eighth Connecticut River Valley Baseball League championship. Despite the wet conditions, only two errors were committed in the game.

Chester's Scott Renfro was in command on the mound, allowing only two hits and one earned run while striking out six to get the complete game win. Jamie Spence was the offensive star of the day going 3-for-3 with three triples, three runs, and three RBIs. His peformance marked the first time in League history that a player hit three triples in a single game. Other Pirates with good days at the plate included Scott Coursen (2-for-4, double, RBI), Gary Parker (2-for-3, RBI) and Doug Roberts (2-for-3). Todd Wells doubled off the top of the center field fence.
Kelvin Delarosa had two hits for Brattleboro, and Abe Klein scored the Rats' only run.
