The official Vermont Democratic Primary count is complete and the nomination is going to Peter Shumlin by 197 votes.
WCAX reports: "The latest certified results from the Secretary of State's office give Peter Shumlin a 197 vote edge over Doug Racine. That's five votes more than the 192-vote margin he held in unofficial balloting on election night.
In the final certified count, Shumlin received 18,276 to Racine's 18,079."

I liked writing the title that way on purpose - so that in a
few weeks we can write one that says "It's Official - It's
Markowitz" and a few weeks later we can have "It's
Official - It's Racine"
I find definite statements about almost anything to be
humorous.
Got predictions for how the votes will settle after the
recount? I'll go out on a limb and say things won't change
for any candidate's position, but the numbers will shift a
bit.

I never know what people write as far as tone, until they
explain it to me, because text just sits there as text. If I
were to hear you say it, and read your facial expressions,
it would be a different matter.
Limbs huh? Okay. I predict Racine wins after the recount,
even though I said Shumlin wins by a nose the night of
the primary (because it made for a funny political cartoon
a la Herb Block or Oliphant). As for the November VT
gubernatorial election, I have to say that's one I can't
predict. This is going to be close in VT, because there's a
lot of idiotic anger against Obama from the Right Wing
over the economy (they never gave him time to fix the
mess using a stimulus, and in fact, the Keynesian stimulus
was too small). So we may see the GOP take over the
Senate, and make huge gains in the House. The USA will
suffer, but the result of this anti-Democrat surge may help
Dubie. Vermont This Week has been on air live right now
saying that Racine got the progressive endorsements in
most of Vermont, except in Windham County.
The real challenge will be getting from a recount by mid-
September to the printing of all the ballots, which has to
be done by no later than Sept. 18! That could be difficult
to pull off. I was also surprised that Shumlin's TV ads
went unanswered for two weeks prior to the primary, when
certainly Deb Markowitz at least had enough money to run
her own ads. Big mistake!

With such close numbers I can't disagree with a recount.
I do have a question, and it's a serious one. Though I was no supporter of Emily Peyton I did not see her name on the Independent ballot. Why not? Press coverage is one thing but if sufficient signatures are acquired it would seem that a name would appear.
And in addition I read in the Burlington Free Press that Peyton was disavowing the lawsuit against the Reformer, that someone else had posted it online without her knowledge, even on her own website. Anyone have any info on that?

There wasn't an Independent ballot; there was Democratic, Republican and Progressive. Her name should be listed on the ballot in November. I worked at the polls on Tuesday, so saw the ballots available many times!

... and there's a someone appropriately self-dubbed "hahayahoo" who is posting this same question elsewhere, about an independent not appearing in the primary. I'm amazed in some ways that democracy works at all anymore.
