Post Oil Solutions will sponsor the second of its Chicken Harvest workshops this summer on Saturday, September 4, from 9:00 to 12:00, at Fair Winds Farm, Upper Dummerston Road, Brattleboro.
The fee for the workshop is a $10/$70 sliding scale with no one refused for lack of funds. Admission fees cover the expenses of the workshop, as well as allowing Post Oil to bring these workshops to a wider audience. Thus, people are asked to be as generous as their circumstances will allow them to be.
Pre-registration and payment are required. Please call 877.886.7397 and leave a brief message with your name, phone number, and the workshop you're registering for. Someone will get back to you to complete the registration.
Please note: unregistered folks that show up at the gate on the day of the workshop will be admitted for $20, firm, and only if there is room. Attendance is limited.
The workshop will be led by Bekah Bailey, and her parents, Janet and Jay Bailey. The family runs Fair Winds Farm, a diversified horse-powered farm that has been raising chickens since 1978.
The Chicken Harvest Workshop is designed to introduce people to the principles of getting a chicken from pasture to freezer on a home-processing, or a small commercial scale, using simple equipment, or by hand. It will cover methods of killing, scalding, plucking, eviscerating, and cooling. Attendees will be able to participate at whatever level they are ready: taking a chicken through the whole process, helping with any part of it, or just watching. People are asked, however, that you join in an atmosphere of respect and thanksgiving throughout our workshop.
