    TAC Meeting
    August 10, 2020

Present: Kate Anderson, Mark Burke, Hugh Keelan, Sarah Rice, Ken Schneck, Judy Zemell
    • Last meeting’s minutes were approved. Reminder to put the next meeting’s meeting time in minutes. Ken “volunteered” to be the secretary from here on out J

    1. Bus Shelter Proposal Update
    • Approved bus shelter proposals from our work session have been officially handed on to the Museum. The group expressed need to reexamine our system for determining (in the future) how proposals are evaluated.
    • Are there items on the Public Art Policy that are dealbreakers?
    • We will attempt to identify key elements of the Public Art Policy before the RFP is crafted so that these criteria can be highlighted to applicants.
    • Request that the Town not even show TAC late/basic logistically-insufficient proposals.

    2. NEA/HUD RFP
    • Very little time left to put together a proposal.
    • Kate spoke with a number of different people to gage interest and the support (manpower, expertise, time) is just not there right now.
    • Expressed need to be able to more easily identify opportunities (and earlier!).

    3. Public Art Initiatives in Conjunction with Co-Op
    • Representative from the Co-Op spoke with Kate about the 24 potential spaces in the new Co-Op to display art.
    • What role can the TAC play in this?
    • TAC can share the process, mentoring the Co-Op through the art selection process.
    • Action item: Hugh will invite representatives from the Co-Op to our next meeting.

    4. Frequency of meetings
    • Motion to move regular warned meetings to the 1st and 3rd meeting of very month. Seconded. Amended to 4-5:15. Passed.

    5. Planning Office
    • Charrette was unfortunately boiled down by the Planning Office to far fewer points than what the charrette yielded.
    • Action item: Sarah, MaryEllen (after someone asks her) and Hugh will meet to review documents and craft a statement back to the planning office.
    • We will have further discussion on how we can use the responses of students who identified “art” as a top asset/distinguishing characteristic of Brattleboro (TAC’s first response – Great!)

    6. Horizontal Art
    • There have been further meetings to address safety concerns of first installation.
    • Call to artists has gone out. This call needs to be more widespread.
    • More structure needed for proposal process
    • Action item: High will talk to Barb Sondag about the possibility of money being deposited in an account for use for this project.
    7. In moving forward, as work of TAC becomes more prominent and projects increase, collaboration and delegation will become even more crucial.

    NEXT MEETING: September 7th, 4-5:15

    Respectfully submitted by Ken Schneck
