BusinessDALLAS (October 7, 2010) – On Wednesday, Oct. 6, Greyhound Lines, Inc. began service at its new location in Brattleboro. The agency is now located at Abbreleez Deli and Food, 707 Putney Rd. From this more convenient location, Greyhound will continue to offer two daily schedules connecting passengers to many of the area’s most popular destinations, including Burlington, Vt., Hartford, Conn. and Springfield, Mass.

“We are glad to have begun operations in a more convenient location,” said Evan Burak, district manager, Greyhound Lines, Inc. “This new agency gives our passengers a more centralized location providing affordable intercity transportation service to a number of destinations throughout North America.”

The agency operates seven days a week from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. For Greyhound ticket information in Brattleboro, call 802-254-9861.

Why not the Transportation Center? Isn't that why we built it?

May have been, Tom, but this is just another example of lack of planning that went into this project. Aside from Spoon's valid points posted just below, it should have been clear from the gitgo to the "experts" that it would be damn nigh impossible for the huge coaches that Greyhound runs these days to make the turn off Main St. onto Flat. Even accessing Flat Street from Canal via Elm would require the driver to swing dangerously wide into the opposite lane of traffic to make the turn. And this doesn't address the issue of using the parking lot across from the Transportation Center to turn around like the local buses do.

I'll stick with my 15 year old Corolla, thank you very much.

I had to look up where this place was.

I guess it is a gas station/convenience store across
    from Staples Plaza.

It' s the Fleming/Subway station on Canal St -
between Newton Business and Millenium Pizza. The
town bus goes there, it has a large turning area,
there's plenty of parking and it's convenient to exit
    one.

There was always hope that Greyhound would use the Transportation Center but, if I recall correctly, they declined the invitation because of the time lost going to that location. Exit 3 is a very fast on/off. They might bite at a site off Exit One, say Walgreens or Price Chopper. At least then there would be a small percent of the population that could walk to the depot. I have no idea if any place in that area made an offer or if Greyhound took any initiatives. The busses have to have adequate room to turn and a safe area to park and unload. There are probably other criteria as well.

I'm not sure if this location is that much better than the
Transportation Center -- you have to go a ways down Putney
Rd to the location below Staples, so it won't be as fast as the
old Exit 3 location which was just a smidge away from the
    rotary.

Seriously? What a truly terrible location. Yes, it's easy to walk to from downtown (provided you have a backpack and no heavy luggage), but the worst part is the traffic. That spot is already a nightmare for drivers turning into or out of the gas station unless they go all the way up to the lights at Staples...

"All the way up" to the lights at Staples? You're kidding, right? 100 feet? And why would anyone have to go the light in order to make a turn? I go in and out of various businesses all the time and have never had an issue. Not because I'm a brilliant or better driver than anyone else! Sometimes you have to wait for traffic, but never longer than the next red light. I just don't get what the "problem" is.

I've been hoping that if/when the new Union Station is done, they'd come off on Exit 1 and go there. The bus to/from Springfield used to stop there. Can you still get the morning train out of Springfield by bus from here?

As there is only one bus per day now out of Brattleboro
it might be easier to make connections by picking up the
bus in Springfield, MA. If you're traveling a good distance
you're probably going to have to make a connection in
New York, and very likely end up waiting there a long
time. But Peter Pan, who home base is Springfield and
works jointly with Greyhound, has ten busses a day to New
York. Pretty good chance one of those ten will get you i
closer to the next bus leaving NY. Last summer I dropped
the time on a bus to Zanesville, Ohio from 24 hours to 17
hours by getting a ride to Springfield and leaving from
    there.
