Mary Pat Sabine (62) died unexpectedly on Friday August 5, 2011. She was born at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital on October 26, 1948. She was the youngest child born to Irene and Lawrence Struthers of West Brattleboro. She graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1966 and studied at the University of VT in Burlington.
She was the proud and loving mother of her daughter, Melody Sabine of Patagonia, AZ and her son, Clayton Sabine, of Brattleboro. She often said that her children were her proudest achievement. She was also a surrogate mother and grandmother to the many beloved “kids” that she took into her home and her heart throughout her life.
She was an enthusiastic and fierce competitor and most of her friends and family have known the sting of defeat after challenging her to rounds of scrabble, cribbage, badminton, horseshoes and countless other games. She had a wicked sense of humor and an infectious laugh. She sang often and well, and she loved to harmonize with her friends, family and church communities.
She was employed primarily as a medical secretary, and many in the community knew her as the exceptionally friendly, helpful and efficient lady at their physician’s office.
She is survived by: her children, Melody and Clayton, her sister Peggy Hadley, her brothers Eddie Struthers, David Struthers, and Russell Struthers and her enormous extended community of beloved family and friends, who are far too numerous to name here. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Jimmy Struthers, and her sister Betty Hazelton.
A celebration of Mary Pat’s life will be held Sunday August 14, 2011 at 2:00 pm at St. Michael Roman Catholic Church at 47 Walnut Street in Brattleboro VT. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend.
