Demolishing the "Over-hyped" Argument

As soon as they finished hyping Irene for a solid week, some of our national media friends flipped into suggesting that perhaps the storm had been "over-hyped".

Charles Apples at the American Copy Editors Society site neatly demolishes that view with a collection of visuals, including the downtown Brattleboro pic (taken by the Reformer's Chris Bertleson) that ran on page one of the Burlington Free Press. Apple: "Here are two young ladies in Brattleboro, Vt., watching hype swallow their entire town."

Well, "entire town" is in fact a little overblown, but his point is right on.
