Get Your eBooks--even with a Kindle
Join Brooks Memorial Library staff on Friday, February 3, at 3 PM in the Library's meeting room, for a guided tour of Overdrive--the eBook and eAudio-- web site. We will show you how to download these to your compatible device for a period of two weeks for free. The only "credit card" needed is your BML library card.
According to the most recent report from the PEW Internet and Life Project, the share of adults in the United States who own tablet computers and eBook readers increased from mid-December to January from 10% to 19%, and now the number of Americans owning at least one of these digital reading devices jumped from 18% in December to 29% in January.
BML patrons love to download. In 2011 library members borrowed 721 titles, ranking us 3rd in the State just behind Rutland (743) and Essex Free Library (761). Of the 139 libraries using Overdrive there were over 17,000 checkouts of e-books in 2011.
Access to eBooks and eAudio is free with your library card. For Brattleboro residents the card is free, for nonresidents the cost if $48 per year or $25 for 6 months. The cost of 4 books purchased from Amazon!
The library also has 4 Kindles to borrow with pre-loaded content.
Compatible devices include desktop PC and MAC computers, mobile devices such as Kindle, Kindle-Fire, Android, Blackberry, IPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Windows Mobile, and eBook readers that include the Nook, Kobo, Literati, NextBook, Pandigital, PocketBook, and Sony Readers.
The workshop is free and open to the public. Bring your reader and share your experiences. Instructional handouts will be available.
