The Brattleboro Area Prevention Coalition (BAPC) announces the launch of the community campaign “Brains Matter” and websitewww.TheBluntTruth.org. The campaign informs the community about the risk marijuana poses for youth and young adults up to age 25.

Marijuana use affects brain development and puts youth at greater risk for dependency later in life. During the month of February BAPC will promote the campaign and website to youth and adults throughout the Brattleboro area.

Using marijuana can result in short and long term consequences on brain development. Furthermore, research shows that the earlier adolescents start using, the more likely they are to become dependent on it or other illicit drugs later in life. In particular, adolescents who use marijuana before the age of 13 are at greater risk for substance use dependence.

BAPC urges the community to visit www.TheBluntTruth.org to learn how brains matter. The website provides youth and adults with information on marijuana use including local data, health risks, the affect on brain development, and provides parenting advice. Information and resources such as flyers, window signs and bookmarks are available at local businesses, organizations and community locations.
