    Select Board Candidate Withdraws

    Town NewsFellow Citizens of Brattleboro

After much thought, I have decided to withdraw from the 2012 Select Board race.

The citizens of Brattleboro deserve people who are totally committed and passionate about being on the Select Board. I believe that Dick DeGray and Chris Chapman are the two people who fit that description.

So, please follow me and support them for the two one year positions on the Select Board.

Finally, I wish to thank all the people who supported me. I would not even have considered this venture without your backing.

    Bill Morlock

    Agreed, this is very bad.
Is there a term limit for any position on the Select Board?

Say it ain't so, Bill! :(

It would have been great to have
    someone with
    your perspective on the Selectboard.

A few things cross my mind:

    - I had heard quite a few people around town looking
forward to voting for Mr. Morlock, and I'm sure many will
be disappointed to hear of this decision.

    - If I'm not mistaken, people have already begun voting
by absentee ballot, and his name will still appear on the
    ballots.

    - Loss of competition could be bad news for the "double
    the voter turnout" drive.

Without question on that last point...

Increasing electoral competition is a tried and true method for increasing turnout - http://www.commoncause.org/site/pp.asp?c=dkLNK1MQIwG&b=5352389

Don't forget that since Mr. Morlock's
name still appears on the ballot, you
can still vote for him if you wish
(hmmm...what would he do if he
won?) and you also have the option -
for all positions on the ballot - to write
in a vote for someone you feel is
    more qualified than those officially
    running.

    Just saying.......

Sounds like a name-raising strategy to me.

I already voted for him. A bullet vote, in fact.
