Town NewsThe Windham County Heat Fund has announced the creation of a special fund to raise money for Peter Diamondstone and Doris Lake who lost their home of 44 years in West Brattleboro to an early morning fire on July 3.

Not only was their home a total loss, but all of their possession were destroyed in the fire. Peter and Doris are well known in the local community as well as throughout Vermont.

Unfortunately, they did not have homeowners’ insurance. Although it is too early for them to decide whether or not to build a new house, it is clear they will need a lot of help to rebuild their lives. Donations of items are not practical at this time but the Heat Fund will help collect funds for them to meet the many expenses they now face.

To contribute to the fund send a check to the Windham County Heat Fund c/o Richard Davis 679 Weatherhead Hollow Road, Guilford, VT 05301 and write “Diamondstone Fire” in the memo section. Donations may be made directly to the fund at the Brattleboro Savings and Loan and tell them the donation is for the Windham County Heat Fund, Diamondstone Fire.

For more information contact Richard Davis at rbdav@comcast.net, 254-2240.

That is a good cause. I do hope it provides some
    real relief for them.

Our excellent home owners insurance from Concord
Group costs $160 a quarter for our $200,000
    replacement policy.

That comes out to $40 a month or ten dollars a week
which is less than $1.50 a day. Health insurance may
be a racket, but if you own a home, fire insurance
seems to be worth every penny.

Thank you, Rolf. I have been wondering all week about the cost of fire insurance.

Seems rather irresponsible not to have it at that cost.

Not a requirement if you own your home.
