Ben Patton and the Soubrette Jazz Choir

Date & Time:
May 23 2017 - 7:30pm - 9:00pm

Siblings Ben and Anna Patton grew up singing harmonies with their parents, grandparents, friends, aunts, and uncles. Jazz, Mo’town, Beatles, Folk, Barbershop, and Mozart were all parts of their landscape, and they have both gone on to become creative and musically-obsessed adults. These days, Ben Patton is a recording artist and singer songwriter based in Burlington VT. Since 2004, Ben has written and produced seven solo albums of his own quirky retro-pop, five albums in the rock duo Muller and Patton and dozens of songs for other artists. Ben will give an intimate performance, accompanying himself on acoustic guitar with vocal harmony from his mother, Deb Patton, and special guests. The show will favor the jazzy, whimsical, sometimes poignant side of his diverse body of work.

Songs and harmonies written by Ben have been a mainstay of Anna’s Jazz Choir since she started the group nearly a decade ago, and this is a rare opportunity to hear these branches of the Patton family share a concert. The Soubrette Jazz Choir (formerly known as The Vermont Jazz Center's Vocal Jazz Ensemble) is a group of women from the Brattleboro area. They meet weekly in spring and fall sessions to work up a set of intricate close harmony arrangements in three-, four- and five part harmonies. This program features songs by Dan Hicks, Cole Porter, Leonard Cohen, Ben Patton, and more!
