Help Re-Open the Ski Slopes at Dutch Hill

Date & Time:
Oct 8 2017 - 9:00am - 3:00pm

Join us on Sunday, Oct 8, from 9-3 at the former Dutch Hill ski area (now managed by the US Forest Service) to help clear the old Yankee Doodle ski slope. DHASH, a chapter of the Catamount Trail Association, has been given permission to cut young growth and remove blowdowns as part of a Forest Service program to encourage non-motorized winter recreation at the site. No, there won’t be any ski lifts, but if you can climb the mountain under you own power, you’ll be able to ski down. Help us make it happen! Strict Forest Service safety requirements include: wear long sleeves, long pants and sturdy footwear; wear a hard hat and eye protection, use gloves (preferably leather). Don’t have a hard hat? Come anyway. We have a few spares. Everyone must go through a safety briefing before starting work, so try to arrive by 9:00. Bring your own favorite tool, or just bring your muscles and help haul the cut debris into brush piles. We’ll have a BYO BBQ in the parking lot afterwards. Please DON’T do any clearing or cutting on your own; come instead to DHASH workdays. Where is Dutch Hill? On Route 100, 1.3 miles south of the junction with Route 8 in Heartwellville (a village of Readsboro), Vermont. For more info, contact info@dhash4vt.org, or check our website, dhash4vt.org.
