Donny McCaslin Quartet featuring Jason Lindner
Saturday, March 24th, 2018, 8 pm
McCaslin and Lindner have solid roots in the language- they've earned jazz cred many times over, playing standards and more familiar fare- Lindner was house pianist at Smalls during the mid-90s and McCaslin replaced Michael Brecker in Steps Ahead.
But like Miles Davis, neither McCaslin nor Lindner is content to reiterate their past accomplishments. A forward-seeking restlessness permeates their music; non-stop surprises and unexplored textural landscapes emerge from their continual quest.
David Bowie heard their quartet during their residency at the 55 Bar in lower Manhattan (with bassist Tim Lefebvre and drummer Mark Guiliana) and decided to use them as his core ensemble for his final record, Blackstar.
Donny McCaslin, tenor sax
Jason Lindner, Fender Rhodes/effects
Jonathan Maron, bass
Alex Kautz, drums

Tickets $20-$40 general, $15 students. Available online, at door, reserved by phone and In the Moment Records.
