Reclaiming the Monetary System  View Printable Version
    Thursday, September 02 2010 @ 11:27 AM GMT+4
    Contributed by: EmilyP

OpinionI respond to the Opinion of James Douglas published on Sept. 1 in the Rutland Herald : A responsible use of federal money. The $13 trillion dollars in debt is a misleading concept when money gets into circulation only as debt. Indicative of the scam that has been perpetrated on a public who has been taught and molded to think of money as a tangible item, money is only accounting.

All of our money is fiat, backed only by faith. We live under an accounting system that benefits the banks . This includes creating money through an accounting entry as both a liability and an asset, and not creating the interest that is expected. Therefore, we are perpetually caught in a game of musical money chairs.

OpinionOn one hand, one must stoutly eschew the detestable, constricted superficiality of Facebook and texting; on the other side, at the risk of being ignored oneself, does one not take into account the characteristic rapidity and abbreviation that have become the norm of modern written communications. The fact is that people feel strongly that they have "no time" for reading lengthy messages.

A Bad Promotion  View Printable Version
    Tuesday, August 31 2010 @ 12:34 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: cgrotke

OpinionThe Great Grocery Giveaway is a contest sponsored by Hannaford. Make a purchase and you get a golden ticket promising $5 million in prizes and a $250,000 grand prize.

Just scratch of 3 of the 9 circles with dollar signs on them. If the underlying symbols match, you win the prize that is hidden by another scratch-off box. There are always 3 and only 3 matching symbols per card. Seems like a great promotion, right? A wonderful chance to save a bit at the grocery store.

    This game is terrible.

Abasing Myself in Public  View Printable Version
    Sunday, August 29 2010 @ 11:26 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Homey

OpinionI realize that in numerous instances in my life it may have appeared to others that I was speaking facetiously. I herewith literally get down on my knees to make my plea that these inexcusable breakdowns in my right speech be forgiven, if not exonerated, by you. I ask you to put me on parole with a short leash and an ankle bracelet. I promise to respond more sensitively and tastefully to others in the future, sans the ribald humor I am well-known for.

The painful truth is I cannot even begin to enumerate how many people I have insulted by my tasteless and provocative speech. If there is any God in heaven, I will be punished for it.

My Truth About Suing the Press  View Printable Version
    Sunday, August 29 2010 @ 01:56 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: EmilyP

OpinionMany people have been angered at the suit I prepared against the press, and I have not had too much time to rsvp to all the concerns. I hope to clear them up here. The premise is that YOU, the VOTER is in charge, not the press, and YOU must have the exposure to the platform to make a full decision.

The Press has its freedom of speech to allow for unbridled criticism of government, my running for governor is just that.

Otiss’s Opinion of Obama  View Printable Version
    Sunday, August 29 2010 @ 11:11 AM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Phillip Brown

Opinion I have watched and studied our elected President, Barack Obama, for over a year and a half, and I have made some decisions about him, which are my personal opinions, only.

It is my belief and opinion that Mr. Obama is a Muslim, and that is the only way to put it! I know that our society wants to teach, that one can be Muslin and a Christian, but one, cannot. For one can only truly worship, one GOD, and Muslins and Christians worship different ones. Either one, believes in Jesus or Muhammad! One cannot walk between the two faiths as our President Obama is doing. Which makes me wonder, which one does he believe in his heart, which one does he walk with daily, as a Muslim are as a Christian?

OpinionNo more than a dog knows what we are doing when we read the newspaper, can we grasp what "God" is doing with the symbols of nature we mistake to be real. He reads us for lunch while we read the newspaper with coffee for breakfast. Hence Dog is God in reverse order, just one meal away.

Even worse: the imminent death of newspapers may be the death of God as we know Her.

    Free Money  View Printable Version
    Saturday, August 28 2010 @ 11:06 AM GMT+4
    Contributed by: EmilyP

OpinionWhere does money come from ? From the Banks of course. What happens when money used in Vermont comes from banks that are owned out-of state ? Our wealth is sent there in the form of interest and fees. What happens when the Banks are owned and operated by the people of Vermont ? The things that Vermonters want to see happen actually happen. The interest from the loans are returned to benefit the good of all in Vermont. The interest rate is decided by the people of Vermont. There is profit from the fees and interest that can be used for other projects in Vermont.

Sovernet Gone Big - Corporate?  View Printable Version
    Friday, August 27 2010 @ 01:51 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Tad Montgomery

OpinionI got a 'Residential Disconnection Notice' from Sovernet in the mail today, which was strange because I could've sworn I'd sent them a check promptly upon receiving their last bill. Checking the check book my memory is confirmed -- August 4th, #1067. So I call them up and have an unpleasant exchange with a customer service agent. I then call my bank, where someone looks at my account and tells me the check never got cashed. "You could have a stop payment put on that check for $25."

Brattleboro Needs A New Organization  View Printable Version
    Sunday, August 15 2010 @ 03:13 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: cgrotke

OpinionBrattleboro has no shortage of things to do. A look at the calendar confirms that there is almost always something interesting, informative or entertaining being staged for the enjoyment of the public.

These events do not always get the audiences they deserve, and point to the need for a new organization in town.

The new organization will be called The Attendees.

Obama Endorsement of Ground Zero "mosk" (Educational Center)  View Printable Version
    Saturday, August 14 2010 @ 04:07 PM GMT+4

Opinion Was very happy to see Mr Obama speak in the affirmative of the ground zero mosque.

He cut through all the bull that all the detractors have been shoveling with a shining voice of reason, and level headedness.

    So:Way to go Mr President!

OpinionFrom a headline: "Fidel Castro warns of nuclear war"

Fidel Castro spoke to Cuba's Parliament for the first time in four years on Saturday, in his first government function since he nearly died in 2006, he repeated his apocalyptic warnings of a nuclear war that only President Barack Obama can avert as he spoke to a special session of parliament.
