Winterpills w/ Clayton Sabine at Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery  View Printable Version
    Tuesday, September 07 2010 @ 01:33 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Anonymous

MusicTwilight Music presents an evening of indie / pop / folk from Northampton and Brattleboro with Winterpills and singer/songwriter Clayton Sabine at Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery on Friday, September 10 at 8:00 pm.

Critically praised as a mirror of sorrows and a beacon of hope, the music of Winterpills - true to its name - is medicine for weary hearts. With three CDs and a soon-to-be-released EP “Tuxedo of Ashes,” Philip Price (vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, keyboards), Flora Reed (vocals, keyboards), Dennis Crommett (vocals, electric guitar), Brian Akey (bass) and Dave Hower (drums, shaken things) maintain their signature chamber-indie ambience while exploring new grounds sonically and lyrically - dense rockers balanced by quiet hymns, and an overall diversity in instruments and textures. All of this backs the wandering words of songwriter Philip Price.

Fifes & Drums in Grafton - Free  View Printable Version
    Thursday, August 26 2010 @ 01:12 PM GMT+4
    Contributed by: DanAxtell

MusicThe Colonial Williamsburg Fifes and Drums return to Grafton for a free outdoor performance on Sunday Aug. 29, 2010 at 4:00. It's a memorable treat to see and hear these young people (ages 10-18) from Virginia. They'll march down Grafton's Main Street in colonial uniforms and then give a concert on the library lawn, so a chair or blanket is desirable. It's a bit odd that a prestigious group is performing nearby and no one's heard about it, but I can explain a little.

By the way, the Grafton Cornet Band will perform afterwards. The Nature Museum, Historical Society, and various galleries will also be open, so it's a good day to visit Grafton.

Housetop at Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery August 27  View Printable Version
    Wednesday, August 25 2010 @ 01:08 AM GMT+4
    Contributed by: Anonymous

MusicTwilight Music presents an evening of lively, quirky, swingy, bluesy, old time American music with Housetop, southern Vermont’s four-part harmony singin’, swingin’ string band, at Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery on Friday, August 27 at 8:00 pm.

If Bing Crosby and the Andrews Sisters could have pulled out strings and horns and honked their own big band breaks like Benny Goodman and Stuff Smith sitting in with a hot backwoods jug band, they would have sounded something like Housetop. Peter Siegel, well known as a songwriter and space-age vaudevillian, contributes his chunking, bluesy archtop guitar rhythm and his enviable high tenor voice. Erica Morse drives the low end on the upright bass, while crooning in an inimitable sisterly blend with Naomi Morse, also renowned for her strong, fiery fiddling. Anna Patton rounds out the quartet, harmonizing with her smooth alto and deftly swinging on the clarinet.
