Aimed at families and caregivers caring for adults with
disabilities, as well as those living with disabilities, a new informational PSA campaign —“Disability Support-Windham County” -- gives individuals a one-stop resource for getting support and joining community groups in Windham County.
The Disability Support–Windham County PSA showcases Windham County options for individuals who
have “aged out” of the federally mandated school district supports that serve
individuals with special needs ages three through 21. Once these supports end—supports
that include everything from therapeutic interventions and inclusion education
to after school care and behavior management—the burden of providing full-time,
everyday support returns to the home caregiver or family.
Besides the two human services agencies—Health Care and Rehabilitation Services and Families
First—the other eight organizations featured on the website are: Theatre
Adventure, Ability Arts, Brattleboro Buddy Walk, the Inclusion Center, The
Gathering Place, Winston Prouty Center, Special Olympics Windham Wizards,
I.N.S.P.I.R.E. for Autism.
