About that Act 46 merger suggestion...

Comments | 5

Voting is Tuesday at the Municipal Center on Main Street.

Poll hours

The polls are open in each of the four towns (Brattleboro, Dummerston, Guilford and Putney) from 10:00 am until 7:00 pm.

I was at a volunteer meeting

I was at a volunteer meeting this morning at Academy School and this was the one topic everyone was talking about. In that group, at least, it seemed to be leaning towards voting for Act 46- which is the first time I've heard much support for it. One of the parents there is a member of the school board and she said she was for it because it was inevitable that it would become law and then it would be on "their" terms- so why not vote it in now. Many of the parents/grandparents there seemed very confused about what to do - not sure it was the right thing but afraid that it would happen and be even less positive for Brattleboro schools than it is now. I don't see anything positive about it so I'm not sure what they meant. I did bring up the statement about the merger increasing volunteer numbers and no one believed that- as we all sat for several hours there making up hundreds of packets for the school raffle. I was surprised to see/hear a strong defense and how conflicted people were. It made me nervous that it will pass.

Voting against our own interests is a tradition!

Election folks say turnout today has been better than expected. We'll have Brattleboro results later tonight.

You'd think we would have

You'd think we would have learned our lesson last November. I generally love traditions but sometimes we need to let them go. When I voted today I ran into several folks I knew who were quite vocal that they did not vote for Act 46.
Fingers crossed that common sense wins out.
