IS THE U.S. SAFE FROM ATTACK?

There have been a number of small wars/military actions against the U.S. on U.S. soil. The largest war was when King George’s army tried to stop the colonists from breaking away from mother England. Since then, the American public has been mostly protected from the death and destruction that war brings. Of course. 9/11 stands alone, but it is only one incident on one day.
In the modern era, Americans have been protected from having to live with a war in our own towns and cities. For Americans, war has been an action without direct consequences. That is not to make light of the thousands of military people who have died trying to protect this country from afar.
Soldiers make up a small percentage of the American population, but they always are the ones who see what war is really like. They are our proxies and they have to be shipped off to foreign countries in order to fight wars that politicians create because they can’t solve disagreements politically.
To all of the non-military citizens of this country war is something we read about and see on our televisions and phones. We are not in a position of having to run from bombs. We do not have to worry if our families are safe from military incursions into our homes.
All of this commentary is obvious, but it is something we need to keep in mind as our unhinged president continues to start wars and take over countries for no other reason than to satisfy his own personal agenda. Trump has never been a soldier. He has no idea what war means to people living through it on a daily basis.
He could care less about the consequences of his actions. Other than loss of military life, which is an ongoing tragedy, the only other consequence is a rise in oil prices in this country as a result of the Iran War. Trump has no sympathy for soldiers or the American people when it comes to the economic struggle to survive or the meaningless deployment of American soldiers being put in harm’s way for no reason.
My biggest fear is that the day make come, sooner rather than later, when foreign countries band together and decide that they have had enough of Trump’s insanity and they decide to start dropping bombs on the U.S.
It seems like a stretch, but the west coast of the U.S. is within reach of Russian and Chinese missiles. That kind of action could easily escalate to nuclear war and world leaders know that.
In this cyber age a nuclear war seems like a bad option when there are so many other ways to destroy a country. Attacks on U.S. infrastructure have become more common. Our country is more vulnerable than it has ever been because we have not kept up with the technological advances that other countries have invested in.
Then there is chemical warfare. It is possible that someone carrying anthrax or people infected with an easily transmissible disease could go to a place like New York City and wipe out a significant part of the population.
The leaders of Iran and Russia are not simply waiting for Trump to make his next move. The time may come when other countries become more aggressive and decide to mount an attack on the U.S. that would make 9/11 look insignificant.
Maybe I am over-reacting, but the world has become less sane and more dangerous as a result of one man’s actions and nothing seems to be off the table.
