Artist Talk With Bruce Campbell at Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is pleased to feature an Artist Talk with Bruce Campbell Saturday, June 9th at 5:30pm. Campbell’s current exhibit Thinking the Cosmos: Kinetic Sculpture will be featured at Mitchell • Giddings through June 24.

Bruce Campbell graduated from Syracuse University with a BFA in printmaking and received an MFA from Indiana University. In the early ‘70s Campbell began designing books and manuscripts, and soon he was  specializing in the design of art museum books and catalogues. For thirty years his clients have included The Metropolitan Museum of Art, National Gallery of Art, The Peabody Museum, and The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, among others.

Thinking the Cosmos presents kinetic sculptures made of brass, steel, copper, aluminum, and wood that invite the viewer to participate in the action through crank-activated mechanisms. The gears, levers, and supports are all made by hand to represent in simplistic forms the motion of moons, planets, stars, and meteorological phenomena. Visually stunning and interactively entertaining, Campbell’s kinetic sculptures illuminate the dynamics of the natural and celestial world, bridging physics, mechanics and aesthetics to create treasured pieces of pure wonderment.

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts is committed to presenting innovative, contemporary works that stimulate and challenge both the seasoned collector and aesthetic explorer.

  • You can get me one...

These are really great little sculptures, and fun, too. Part art, part toy.

Wouldn’t it be neat to build a large one somewhere in town?
