Independence was celebrated in a very independent and miscellaneous manner by “Younga- Merikah” in this village. The chief attractions were the appearance of a company dressed in quaint, antique costume, with a fair sprinkling of caricature of more modern foibles. The boys kept up an unceasing din with powder and fire-works, while the more quietly disposed spent the day away from home.
