Saturdays, 11:00 am – 12:30 pm, February 20- April 24, tuition: $250
Instructor: Freddie Bryant
In this interactive workshop, participants will expand their practical knowledge and learn new concepts with repertoire they are already familiar with – challenging themselves to see the infinite possibilities that a “jazz approach” can produce.
Freddie Bryant asks each participant to bring a tune that they know well to the first class. Over the course of the semester, each participant will than apply the following 5 goals to that particular tune:
1. Chord construction: from the fundamentals to the esoteric
2. Comping: rhythm and voice leading
3. Chord Melody and Solos
4. Single Line Soloing: expanding melodies
5. Groove: subdivisions and syncopation
These 5 goals can be applied to straight ahead, Brazilian, Latin, and other jazz styles – so come with a song you love and embark on a musical journey with other like-minded individuals.
Participants will also learn new repertoire and expand their rhythmic and harmonic vocabulary.
Work exchange opportunities are available. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
