Mondays, 5:00 – 6:00 pm, February 15- April 19, tuition: $200 (in-person)
Instructor: Claire Arenius

NOTE: Spots for some instruments have been filled.  Please email ginger@vtjazz.org with any questions.  Due to COVID safety issues, the Ensemble will run with out wind instruments, including voice.

Local drumming legend Claire Arenius will lead a workshop/ensemble focusing on the repertoire from landmark Blue Note recordings of the late 1950s and early 1960s.

The repertoire will include jazz standards and originals recorded by Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, John Coltrane, Herbie Hancock, Cannonball Adderley, Horace Silver, Dexter Gordon, Freddie Hubbard, Lee Morgan, Hank Mobley and Wayne Shorter.

The Blue Note era was characterized by the “hard bop” style; participants can expect to play music with a driving beat that was influenced by gospel and R&B roots as well as ballads and bossa-influenced “straight-eight” tunes.

Work exchange opportunities are available. No one will be turned away due to lack of funds.
