Bobby Watson and Horizon at the Vermont Jazz Center

Bobby Watson, one of the most important alto saxophonists on the scene today, and revered jazz educator, earned the limelight as music director of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers between 1977 and 1981.

He is on hundreds of recordings, and worked with luminaries including the Marsalis Brothers, George Coleman, Dianne Reeves, Lou Rawls, Betty Carter and Carmen Lundy.

Watson is best known for the ensemble Horizon, one of the preeminent small groups of the1980s -1990s. Watson and drummer Victor Lewis continue as the backbone of the group.

For this performance they will be joined by pianist Ed Simon, bassist Essiet Okon Essiet and trumpeter Giveton Gelin.
