Brattleboro Women’s Chorus Spring Concert

May 13, 2018 4:00 pm - 5:15 pm

Centre Congregational Church

Main St, Brattleboro, VT

The Brattleboro Women’s Chorus will present their annual spring concerts, titled “Made in Vermont,” on Saturday, May 12 at 7:30 pm and Sunday, May 13 at 4:00 pm at Centre Congregational Church, 193 Main Street. Eighty women, directed by Becky Graber and accompanied by Cathy Martin on piano, will sing songs about Vermont or composed or arranged by Vermonters.

Featured in the concert will be the state song, “These Green Mountains,” as well as older favorites like “Maple Sweet” and “The Vermont Farmer’s Song.” And the well-known standard, “Moonlight in Vermont,” will make an appearance.

The chorus will sing “Hope Lingers On” by Brattleboro singer and fiddler Lissa Schneckenburger, as well as “Voice Among Voices” by Vermonter, Willa Mamet and arranged in parts by Graber.

“The Art of Disappearing,” a poem by Naomi Shihab Nye and set to music by Graber, will debut, and her arrangements of “Jubilee” and “Wayfaring Stranger” will be brought back.

Each performance will include a guest appearance by either Big Woods Voices (Saturday night) or Singcrony (Sunday afternoon).

The inspiration for Vermont songs formed because Graber will travel with eighteen chorus singers to Grand Rapids, Michigan this summer to participate in the Sister Singers Festival, a gathering of women’s choruses from around the country. They will present many of the Vermont songs there to represent the Brattleboro Women’s Chorus.

Tickets are available at BrownPaperTickets.com or at the door for $12 Adult, $20 Generous, $10 Senior and Student. Visit BrattleboroWomensChorus.org or call 802-254-8994 for information about the chorus.
