Chicken Barbeque and Dessert Sale

May 25, 2019 10:45 am - 1:00 pm

On the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, May 25th, the West Brattleboro Association will be putting on its annual chicken barbeque. In conjunction with this the West B. First Congregational Church will be holding a dessert sale. All at one easy location in front of the church in the center of the historic West Brattleboro village. The baked goods from the Church will be available by 10:30am and the half-chickens, baked beans and coleslaw from the WBA will be ready by 11 at the latest.

Leading up to that morning the skilled bakers of the Church will be hard at work on some of their specialties. Um, chocolate, vanilla, ginger, lemon!

Such scrumptious baked goods can either assuage one’s hunger while waiting for the chicken, beans and slaw, or else act as a fine exclamation point thereafter!

Joe Jewett and his crew will once again get the coals going early in the day for the chicken itself. The birds are being supplied by the Tessitores (Marc and Susan), proprietors of the Guilford Country Store and West Brattleboro village residents. Master bean chef Helen Robb will once again be slowly cooking the baked beans. (Maybe even adding a touch of Robb Family Farm maple syrup?) The McDermet household, Kris and Stewart, will be providing the coleslaw.

The full meal is available for $10, or $7 for just the half-chicken. Get there early as all this delicious food goes fast. Proceeds of the barbecue will help fund the WBA’s community activities and initiatives, and moneys from the bake sale will support the Church’s programs.
