Conlang! [khanlæŋ!] Creating Constructed Languages, Session Two

Join us on Wednesday, August 8th at 7 pm as Dean Easton teaches the second session of a FREE 4-part workshop! Dean Easton has been exploring and creating conlangs for many years, and recently taught a class at the Compass School. With graduate degrees in English and linguistics, and teaching experience in high schools and colleges in Turkey, China, Japan, Korea and the U.S., he brings a wealth of experience to conlanging and teaching.

 Session TwoWays to Create 2: A priori “from the beginning” and a posteriori “after the fact” conlangs

Ancestors and Descendants

    • historical linguistics and evolving a naturalistic conlang within an existing language family – worksheet using Proto-Indo-European to create conlangs

Grammaticalization and You – a $64 word for a useful idea

    • Hopi tenses, Chinese classifiers, Finnish cases, Arabic verbs – worksheet on the wide range of things you can grammaticalize in your conlangs
