Hogback Wildlife Habitat Improvement

September 22, 2018 9:00 am

We need volunteers who like working outdoors to help with our project to increase the variety of wildlife habitat at the Hogback Mountain Conservation Area in Marlboro. In Vermont, we’ve currently got plenty of mature forest, but very little in the equivalent of toddler, school kid, and teenager stages. Many wildlife species, from birds to moose, find welcome feed and shelter opportunities in young forest that aren’t available in older woods. We are clearing the growth on several of the former ski slopes to rejuvenate the thickets that sprang up when the ski area went out of business over 30 years ago. Join us! Bring your own favorite tool or borrow one from our collection. Meet at 9:00 in the parking lot on the south side of Route 9 west of the gift shop, near the white distillery building. We’ll call it a day by noon. Questions? Contact hmca@hogbackvt.org. Want to see what we’ve accomplished already? Go to hogbackvt.org and click the ESH Project tab.
