Inside out turning is a clever technique that allows you to turn pieces with hollow cores and delicate features. It is ideal for making Christmas ornaments and other lightweight pieces. We will begin with straight blanks made from a bundle of four pieces temporarily glued together. After turning a curved surface in the blank, it is disassembled and permanently glued together with the curves on the interior. This blank is then turned to its final shape.
Learn. Inside-out turning is a two-step technique and this is a one-day class. To accomplish this you will spend the morning learning to create, turn and glue-up the blanks. In the afternoon you will work on pre-made blanks to turn the final product. You may use this knowledge to finish the blanks you created in the morning on your own.
Make. By the end of class you will have at least one finished ornament and techniques that you can use to create a variety of shapes, limited only by your imagination.
Thursday, May 8 | 10am – 4:30pm | Class will break for a 1/2 hour lunch
Cost: $150 non-members; $127.50 members (plus an additional $15 materials fee)
