210 Main Street, Brattleboro, VT

Calling all the cool kids! King Tuff, aka Kyle Thomas, is riding into town with a new album in his back pocket. His latest offering, The Other, just came out in April and we are super lucky to host him at the Stone Church in Brattleboro for what is bound to be an epic Monday night.

The Other is a narrative of redemption born of creativity. As Thomas sings about about being stuck in traffic, directionless, with no particular reason to be alive, he hears the call of “the other,” a kind of proverbial siren song that, instead of leading towards destruction, draws the narrator towards a kind of creative rebirth. Elsewhere, tracks like “Through The Cracks” and “Psycho Star” balance psychedelia with day-glo pop hooks.

Thomas views the entire experience of writing and recording The Other as a kind of psychic reset. “I let the songs lead me where they wanted to go, instead of trying to push them into a certain zone. King Tuff was always just supposed to be me. When I started doing this as a teenager, it was whatever I wanted it to be. King Tuff was never supposed to be just one thing. It was supposed to be everything.”

The Other marks a new chapter for King Tuff. “I was a lost soul, I didn’t know who I was anymore, I just sat there staring out the window. So I went down deep into the void for a few years. And while I was there I found some worms, some crazy flowers, and some songs. These songs blasted me back into the sunshine. They saved me and Im more excited about this record than I have been in a long time. Come join me in The Other.”

In-keeping with a local hero theme, Ruth Garbus is opening! Ruth is a musician and artist living in Brattleboro, Vermont. She has released four solo albums to date (Ruthie’s Requests, Rendezvous With Rama, Joule EP, and Hello Everybody, on Autumn Records, Feeding Tube Records, and OSR Tapes), and is also known for her roles in the bands Feathers and Happy Birthday. She has lived in Brattleboro since 2001.
