Next Stage Arts Project presents Poet Lucas Farrell

Next Stage Arts Project presents 2020 Sundog Poetry Book Award winner Lucas Farrell as part of its “Next Stage Speaks” literary series on Thursday, April 8 at 7:00 pm.  Hosted by former Vermont Poet Laureate Chard deNiord, this free zoom event celebrates the April 6 book launch of Lucas’ award-winning book of poems “the blue collar sun.”  Lucas will read a selection of his poems, as well as answer questions from Chard and audience members.

Originally from Aspen, Colorado, Townshend, VT-based poet Lucas Farrell studied at Middlebury College and the University of Montana.  His first book of poems “The Many Woods of Grief” was awarded the Juniper Prize for Poetry and published by University of Massachusetts Press.  His poems appear in many literary journals, among them “Boston Review,” “Jubilat,” and “Diagram.”  “the blue-collar sun” will be published in partnership with Green Writers Press of Brattleboro, VT.  Lucas and his wife own and operate Big Picture Farm, a small hillside goat dairy and award-winning farmstead confectionery.

Sundog Poetry Center’s mission is to promote poetry for all Vermonters by supporting poets in their development through workshops, readings, events, and publications.  The Sundog Poetry Book Award is open to all Vermont-based poets who have not yet published a first or second book.  This year’s judges included Vermont State Poet Laureate Mary Ruefle.
