Get to know acclaimed 19th century local author Mary E. Wilkins Freeman at the Brattleboro Words Project’s next Roundtable Discussion on Thursday, September 19, 7:00 PM, in the Main Room at Brooks Memorial Library in Brattleboro, Vermont. Freeman was a prolific writer, admired by Rudyard Kipling and Mark Twain, known nationwide for her depictions of New England village life. A 1986 short film starring Amy Madigan based on Freeman’s short story, “The Revolt of Mother,” will be screened at 7:00 PM, followed by a discussion of the themes found in the short story and the film. This event is free and open to the public.

As one of the presenters of this evening, I would add that the idea for the post-film discussion is that we’d like as many people as possible to read Freeman’s original story beforehand, so that in our discussion we can compare the literary version to the film adaptation. But please attend even if you don’t get around to pre-reading!
