DESCRIPTION:Fine line drawing and attention to minute detail characterizes the art work of Sheryl Steiger Young. Her etchings take the observer where neither beast\, tree nor landscape is what it appears to be\, but rather a precious spirit or place where hidden images\, both real and imagined\, merge.\r \n Sheryl Steiger Young first began etching nearly fifty years ago when she wanted to send her art into the world\, but also keep her beloved works. Inspired by masters Albrecht Dürer and Martin Schongauer\, her process is much the same technique they used with copper plates and a press to imprint images.\r \n The focus is on animals for the upcoming exhibit--especially endangered species--in the hope that bringing each animal's intensely personal connection with viewers will change their response to a much more concerned and empathetic point of view.  The nature and animal studies are the root of her work\, expressing all the perfection and beauty one could possibly be privileged to enjoy in the world.\r \n Sheryl Steiger Young’s animal etchings are featured during the month of May at Gallery in the Woods\, 145 Main Street Brattleboro with an opening during Gallery Walk on Friday May 6 from 5 - 8 PM.
