Performances feature the duo's signature soaring harmonies and lush\r \n acoustic instruments\, in songs that span folk to jazz and funk to rock. September\r \n marks Emma’s Revolution 25th year of writing songs about critical issues\r \n happening in the world\, lending their voices to the movements those issues inspire\r \n and delivering moving\, uplifting performances. The duo’s songs have been praised\r \n by Pete Seeger and covered by Holly Near\, featured on NPR’s All Things\r \n Considered and Pacifica’s Democracy Now!\, and sung around the world.\r \n \r \n This year is the 25th anniversary of September 11th and of the duo’s first song\r \n written together\, “Peace Salaam Shalom”. Sandy and Pat were moving from NYC\r \n to the Washington DC area when the Trade Towers were hit. When the only\r \n response from the government and the corporate media was war and retribution\,\r \n they wrote the song\, with the words for peace in English\, Arabic and Hebrew and\r \n sang it at an impromptu peace march in DC that week. Less than a month later\,\r \n they led the song at the first peace rally in NYC after 9/11\, where thousands of the\r \n more than 10\,000 people there sang with them for the three hour march\, all the\r \n way from Union Square to Times Square. Since then\, the song has been sung\r \n around the world and called the anthem of the anti-war movement.\r \n \r \n Emma’s Revolution carries on in the spirit of their mentor\, Pete Seeger. “Activist\r \n musicians inherit a legacy of the indivisibility of truth-telling and soul-stirring\,”\r \n Pat explains\, “We sing stories steeped in the rich legacy of freedom\, the triumph of\r \n overcoming\, the grief of injustice\, weaving stories\, melodies and harmonies in a\r \n rich alchemy of vintage genres and emerging sounds to create an experience full of\r \n heart\, hope and motivation . . . especially in a time like this.”
