DESCRIPTION:Saturday June 10\, 2023\r \n 7:30 pm\r \n \r \n Vermont Jazz Center\r \n \r \n In-person &amp\; livestreamed event\r \n \r \n Eugene Uman is the director of the Vermont Jazz Center &amp\; performs as a pianist in numerous projects. \r \n \r \n His annual June concert is a representation of a year’s worth of composing &amp\; collaborating with various musicians &amp\; an opportunity for him to assemble a dream band that manifests his vision &amp\; unites his musical influences. \r \n \r \n Eugene Uman - piano/compositions

Francisco Mela - drums\r \n \r \n Uman’s energetic playing &amp\; writing style is flavored with the Latin rhythms that he has absorbed during his tenure living in Colombia where he initiated the jazz studies programs at la Universidad de EAFIT &amp\; el Colegio de Música de Medellín. \r \n \r \n Several of his compositions employ forms &amp\; grooves adapted from Colombian music such as cumbia\, pasillo\, puya\, bambuco\, and currulao. \r \n \r \n They are also strongly influenced by his bebop mentors: Sheila Jordan\, Howard Brofsky\, Mike Longo &amp\; Jimmy Heath as well as by the sounds of his youth when he played in rock &amp\; blues bands. \r \n \r \n Uman’s compositions draw from a vocabulary of modern jazz\, hard bop\, rock\, soul\, Latin American rhythms &amp\; gospel\; listeners can expect a “convergence” of the music he loves in a mash-up of styles where groove is king.\r \n \r \n Masks optional\, light refreshment available.\r \n \r \n Tickets $20-50 sliding scale general admission in-person\r \n Donations for livestream welcome.\r \n \r \n https://vtjazz.org\r \n \r \n gingervjc@gmail.com\r \n 802 254 9088\r \n \r \n Vermont Jazz Center\r \n 72 Cotton Mill Hill #222\r \n Brattleboro VT 05301
