The Sunday School at Guilford Community Church on September 7 will resume the curriculum of the ‘A Joyful Path” in which spiritual lessons for children kindergarten through 6th grade are both heart-centered and experiential, according to Sue Owings, chair of the church’s Christian Education committee.
Owings explained that this curriculum was chosen for many reasons, not the least of which was for its integrated approach to every lesson. “Children will listen to oral stories, reflect on their impressions as a group, and create projects that relate to the spiritual theme of the day,” Owings stated.
Owings clarified one of the many advantages of this curriculum was that if a child misses a lesson, it won’t affect their engagement the next time they come. “We want all children to feel welcome and know they can fully participate at Sunday School whenever they attend,” she said.
Sunday School at Guilford Community Church focuses on ages K-6th grade and begins at 10 am. The children start out in the adult service with a parent(s) or grandparent(s) until they go downstairs for the specialized curriculum following The Children’s Story by the pastor. JoAnne Heckman teaches Sunday School while Batunga Bibimba oversees children ages 3 and 4.
Children may join the Sunday School at any time during the year without advanced registration but are encouraged to start on September 7 if possible.
