Dan Welden: Haystack Crescendo

Mitchell • Giddings Fine Arts debuts Haystack Crescendo, etchings overpainted by master printer and painter Dan Welden, along with a series of new paintings by the artist. Opening and artist reception is scheduled for Saturday, August 23, 5:00 – 7:00. Prior to the 5:00 pm opening, at 3:00 pm Welden will provide a short demonstration of his working techniques, and a discussion of the creation of Haystack Crescendo. October 24 – 26 will feature a printmaking workshop, with details to be provided.

The solitude offered during a residency in Maine created the ideal opportunity for Welden to experiment and explore his unending curiosity with spontaneous responses to color. The resulting work – Haystack Crescendo – is the artist’s latest iteration of his Aesop’s Fables, a remarkable suite of “hybridized prints” – neither pure print nor painting. They are a celebration of his curiosity to collaborate with nature, a coalescence of print, painting and line.
