Dovetails don’t have to be intimidating or slow. This class focuses on producing clean, consistent dovetail joints using woodworking machines and simple shop-made jigs. If your goal is efficiency, accuracy, and repeatable results, this course will show you how to make professional-looking dovetails with confidence.

Who This Class Is For: Ideal for woodworkers who want dependable dovetails for furniture and cabinetry, prefer working with machines, or are looking for a practical system they can repeat in their own shop.

Learn. In this 2-day intensive, students will learn how to cut both through and half-blind dovetails using the bandsaw and other machines. Topics include:

  • Sharpening and preparing chisels for machine-cut dovetail fitting
  • Accurate marking and layout for dovetails and pins
  • Cutting tails and pins on the bandsaw
  • Using chisels safely and effectively to fine-tune the fit
  • Using jigs and fences to increase speed, accuracy, and repeatability

Make. Students will bring home:

  • A dovetail jig for the bandsaw
  • A drill press fence for cutting the half-blind pins
  • A series of through dovetails
  • A series of half-lap dovetails

Bring: Participants are welcome to bring in their own hand tools, such as marking or bevel gauges, combination squares, chisels, etc. or we will have plenty to share.


2 SESSIONS: February 21 & 22
Saturday & Sunday  |  10am – 5pm  |  Class will break for a 1/2 hour lunch each day.

Cost: $390 non-members: $331.50 members (plus an additional $20 materials fee.)
