The mortise and tenon is the unsung hero—the hidden workhorse—of fine furniture design. Strong, reliable, and time-tested, this essential joint is the backbone of countless woodworking projects. In this class, you’ll learn a practical and repeatable approach to creating tight, precise mortise and tenon joints using a blend of common woodshop machines and hand tools.

Learn. In this 2-day intensive, students will learn how to:

  • Lay out and mark mortises with marking gauges
  • Drill mortises on the drill press
  • Lay out and mark tenons with marking gauges
  • Cut tenons on the table saw
  • Cut and fit tenons to mortises using the bandsaw and chisels

Make. Students will bring home a series of mortise and tenon joints.

Bring: Participants are welcome to bring in their own hand tools, such as marking or bevel gauges, combination squares, chisels, etc. or we will have plenty to share.
