A NEW BRAIN WORM
By
Richard Davis

A lot of American’s brains have been invaded by a new brain worm that creates a host of symptoms that just won’t go away. You won’t find this disease in any medical book because it has not yet been widely recognized, yet too many of us have felt its effects.

What I am referring to is the unrelenting occupation of our thoughts by the biggest bully and newly anointed American king, Donald Trump. Like it or not, he has been able to weasel his way into almost every aspect of life and, unless you are living under a rock, you are not immune to this infection.

When I was growing up I was bullied a lot. I think it was mostly because I was a fat kid and the bully types looked at me as an easy target. This went on for a number of years until I finally decided to fight back. In the late fifties and early sixties the culture was different than today and when I went to my father to tell him about kids picking on me his only reaction was to tell me to fight back. I don’t think most parents would say that today.

Eventually, I took his advice and the day that I finally confronted one of the bullies was the day my life changed. I no longer feared going to certain places and I felt like I had claimed a power I didn’t know I had.

Today, we are being subjected to high level bullying by Trump. If we try to confront him on a one-to-one level we will go to jail, so we will never know that kind of satisfaction. But we are suffering the effects of a bully who has unimaginable power. It is a dream come true for a bully who is really the biggest coward on the planet.

One of the scenarios that gives me comfort is thinking about how Trump would react if he were not President and someone confronted him in a alley with a gun. Without the massive protection that he now has I am sure that he would whimper and cry and plead for his life like a pitiful coward. I see that scene in my mind and it helps me deal with the psychic pain he is causing me.

The brain worm is real: all too real. Trump has found a way to create anxiety and a host of other troubling emotions that have established a place in our heads. That is one of the reasons why there is so much protesting on a regular basis. It makes people feel like they have some power, if only small, and it helps them combat the worm.

There have been attempts on Trump’s life. Those would-be assassins may have felt the effects of the worm more acutely than the rest of us. They may have decided that the only way to help themselves and everyone else under the Trump spell was to kill him. It takes a certain kind of person to go that far, but Trump’s actions are making it possible for those kind of people to become mobilized because the misery he is causing is so painful.

Murder is not a solution to anything, but until Trump no longer has power we are all going to continue to suffer the effects of the deadly brain worm.
